Basically everyone knows the feeling of being broken up with. It's horrible and you want to crawl under the covers and never come out again. It's even worse when you go to school with said crush. This post is for queen_bunnie, who requested I upload some break-up songs, which, luckily enough, my friend + I did a mixCD for. Here are some selections, babe.
"Heal Over" by KT Tunstall
This didn't appear on my CD for my friend because at the time, I had no idea who KT was. Now, I'm enlightened and can't get over how great this girl is. I would reccommend picking up a copy of the album (virtually or in RL), because it's the most beautiful music ever. She covers every genre (just about) and has the most beautiful voice. I'm reccing this song because it's probably the most break-up orientated, however, most of her tracks could fit the theme as well. (Let me know if you want more of this, or any in this post).
"The Hardest Part Of Breaking Up (Is Getting Back Your Stuff)" by 2ge+her
The title track of my mix:
breaking up is hard enough,
Say you had nothing but I called your bluff.
You got my sweaters, my hat...
I can't find my cat! *meow*
The hardest part of breaking up
is getting back your stuff.
"I Won't Make You" by Something Corporate
One of the sadder songs, this is all about giving up the person to their own needs/wants.
You had an apology in your mailbox, since last July,
it's funny when you find the words to say, you find no reply.
I want to feel through you tonight, but I won't make you,
scream my name just one more time, I won't make you.
"Summer Moved On" by A-Ha
A-Ha had that song, "Take On Me", and that's all anyone really knows of them. This is my favourite other track by them, because it's so sad and sweet, it's about sort of just, people moving on etc.
"You Wouldn't Like Me" by Tegan and Sara
A lot of their music I discovered from Grey's Anatomy, which has the ability to break my heart, so maybe no one else will understand how much this song breaks me, but it does.
There’s nothing to live for when I'm sleeping alone,
and I wash the windows outside in hopes that the glare will bring you around.
"Sexed Up" by Robbie Williams
One of those mopy, feel-sorry-for-me tunes.
Why don't we break up, there's nothing left to say,
I've got my eyes shut, praying they won't stray.
"I Love Myself Today" by Bif Naked
A pick me up song for after you get dumped. It always makes me feel good about myself.
"Stay" by Lisa Loeb
This song is so old and yet so awesome. She was featured in the Legally Blonde movie & soundtrack and has some of the best music ever. If you want more, I will gladly share. She is love.
and you say i only hear what i want to:
i don't listen hard,
i don't pay attention to the distance that you're running
or to anyone, anywhere,
i don't understand if you really care,
i'm only hearing negative: no, no, no.
"Best Thing You Never Had" by Butch Walker
If you haven't heard this song, you haven't lived. Another "I'm-too-good-for-you" track, which is what you need to hear after a break-up. It starts off the way exactly how you feel after you break-up with someone ("Hello how you doing?/What's it like to ruin all my self esteem?") and progresses to tell you about this girl who's broken his heart because she thought she was the only one who mattered. It's a great song, and when you're feeling down it can lift you up, not in a happy way but in a ...bitter way >:D
When you act like nothing ever happened
I feel like I should feel bad
But I can't like someone who thought
They're the only one that mattered
I hope that you're flattered
Cause you broke this down
The best thing that you never had
"Born To Make You Happy" by Britney Spears
Right after the last one comes the crushing song by Britters, which basically rips my heart out even though it's effin' Britney SPEARS! It's such the best song to mourn a relationship to.
I know I've been a fool since you've been gone
I'd better give it up and carry on (oh my love)
'Cause living in a dream of you and me
is not the way my life should be.
"My Ex-Girlfriend's Boyfriend (live)" by Machine Gun Fellatio
I love Pinky. This track is better than the album version mostly for the last bit, when he's like "my new girlfriend's boyfriend's got a band..." and everyone laughs =)
"Had Me A Girl" by Tom Waits
This one is the one you secretly hope your ex is listening to.
And my doctor says I'll be alright
But I'm feelin' blue.
